Fading Light

The bar was quieter than usual. A silence had fallen over the Last City ever since Eramis had tried to activate ABHORRENT IMPERATIVE. People weren't as talkative as they usually were. They'd all felt the fear of seeing the Traveler begin to leave Earth. And they all knew that The Witness was nearly here. War was just on the horizon.

A Warlock and a Titan, both dressed in orange, had a table all to themselves. The Warlock, Joshua, was a human with Caucasian skin, brown hair and blue eyes. The Titan, Lillian, was an Awoken with orange hair that matched her own eyes. They both drank together; the whiskey didn't burn Joshua's throat as it normally did.

Joshua had spoken to Ikora, and she had told him to "Spend time with the people you love. This may be your last chance to."

So, here the two of them were. Joshua looked into Lilly's face, as if trying to memorize every detail of it. Meanwhile, she looked into his eyes, smiling sympathetically. Then, at once, both looked down.

Joshua spoke "I... once thought that the two of us would have eternity together. Now, that eternity seems like a number of minutes... hours... maybe days if we're lucky."

Lily chuckled lightly "How long ago were you first rezzed, Josh?"

"When Calus began inviting Guardians to the Menagerie. I was still wrapping my head around the fact that someone had stolen the Light." Joshua answered "But things just got worse from there..."

"And since that time, you've become one of the best Warlocks I've ever seen. You learned everything a Warlock can do, and used that knowledge to choose the best ways to protect the City and it's people. Emphasis on 'ways'. As in, more than one." Lilly's voice soothed his mind with the truths it spoke. "That's part of why I fell in love with you; it's an adaptability a lot of Guardians lack. Especially Titans like me who just love Seismic-Striking or Ballistic-Slamming into everything, and Thundercrashing into everything bigger."

Joshua smirked as he remembered his girlfriend trying to Thundercrash a Prime Servitor that teleported out of the way just before impact. "What's your point?" he asked.

"Whatever is about to happen to the City, to Earth, to all of Sol? I know that you won't stop fighting as long as your Ghost can still rez you." Lilly rested a hand on his wrist. "Just like I won't."

A deep sigh heaved from the Warlock and he raised his glass "Well... here's to burning out instead of fading away."

Lilly nodded and mirrored him; the two Guardians finished their drinks on the next swig.

The door to the bar opened and a human Caucasian Hunter walked in, wearing the same orange attire as the Warlock and Hunter. She was even more unmistakable due to her bright pink hair. She strode over to the other two and plopped down on the third chair.

"Crazy week, huh?" She asked with a sigh. Then she noticed the empty glasses. "You two had a toast without me, didn't you?" she said, mocking heartbreak.

"Just a small one, Rose. Promise." Joshua chuckled and got up to get more drinks.

Lilly just smiled and answered "Yeah... crazy week."

After placing the orders to the bartender, Joshua turned to look at his two friends starting to talk and joke. Whatever came next-an invasion of Earth, the death of the Traveler, the unveiling of a new threat entirely-he had them. And right now, that was more than eternity could have ever offered him.
